Amsterdam Light Festival 2019

From 28 November 2019 to 19 January 2020, the Amsterdam Light Festival is back in our capital city. Amsterdam lights up with the most beautiful works of art around the canals. Amsterdam Light Festival Route

This is the eighth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival, and this year’s theme is DISRUPT! The judges have selected the most beautiful and special (inter)national works by 20 artists, each work of art representing this year’s theme. It’s not just the artworks that are part of the exhibition, the city itself is part of it as well. Along the route, places and buildings that have a connection to the DISRUPT! theme are put in the spotlight as well.

The route is different from previous years. During this edition, you don’t walk along the Herengracht, but you’ll explore the eastern part of Amsterdam’s city centre. Walk, bike or sail from Oosterdok past the Oudeschans, Amstel, Nieuwe Keizersgracht, Plantage and Muidergracht to Entrepotdok.

Amsterdam Light Festival:practical information

For 53 days, you can see 20 works of art and explore five stories about the city. The artworks are naturally at their best when it’s completely dark. The works of art are lit up from 5 pm, but we’d recommend visiting them a bit later. The spectacle can be admired until 11 pm. The only exception to these times is on New Year’s Eve, when the artworks are turned off at 8 pm.

Although you can walk the route on your own, taking a tour is highly recommended. The guides tell you more about the works of art and the underlying ideas of the artists. Parking during Amsterdam Light Festival

After you’ve parked your car at Parking Centrum Oosterdok, the route takes you in a circle back to the parking. That’s because Parking Centrum Oosterdok is on the Oosterdokseiland. Book a parking space online from €5 per day! You won’t find a more affordable parking space anywhere in the centre of Amsterdam.
